Pricing Disclosures
Innovative Chess Solutions is sincerely committed to be completely transparent about everything you pay and the terms thereof. This disclosure statement is intended to fulfill this objective.
In determining pricing for our tournaments, we generally have three principles in mind: (1) Ensure that entry is reasonably affordable to our prospective entrants without compromising quality; (2) Reward students for registering early by providing substantially lower rates than available to later entrants; and; (3) Simplify pricing. In light of these principles, we charge you a single entry fee to participate, which varies in amount depending upon when you register and possibly the section in which you register. As a general rule, people who register the soonest will pay 50% of the amount paid by those who register the latest. Although the precise entry fees will vary from tournament to tournament, our online events usually charge $10-20 and our in-person scholastic events charge $15-30. Pricing is subject to change at any time.
As a component of our commitment to price simplicity, we generally do not charge additional fees or surcharges in addition to your entry fee. For instance, some of the extra fees we do not charge (that other organizers do) include fees for withdrawals, phone entries, bye requests or reentries. If any extra charge is necessary, it will be disclosed far in advance (i.e., no hidden fees) and confined to a reasonable amount.
For the sake of utmost disclosure, the only extra fees and charges you might incur from one of our events are as follows:-
Description | Amount | Notes |
Blitz Fee | $10 | At in-person tournaments, we occasionally offer one-hour blitz side-events that are entirely optional. You are only charged if you elect to play in the blitz. |
Eventbrite Fees | Varies | Applies only if you register electronically through Eventbrite. |
Onsite Entry | $5 | Applies only if you register onsite at the tournament. |
Shipping | Cost | If you fail to collect a prize at one of our in-person scholastic tournaments, either personally or by proxy, you must pay the cost of shipping to have it mailed to you. |
Section Adjustment Fee | Varies | This fee only applies to our cash prize events that have different entry fees for different sections. It is only changed when you move to a section with a higher entry fee and does not apply if you are required to move to the fee-incurring section because your rating increased after registration. |
Membership Commission | $3 | Should we process a USCF membership on your behalf, instead of you becoming a member directly, we are entitled to a $3 commission on that sale. This is not an extra charge you pay, but is deducted from the amount you would otherwise pay the USCF as membership dues. |
